Another Beam catch-up – this one I had nearly caught up on before I even started to do the “just catch up on everything in the order they happen to be in in the next issue of Beam” thing I’ve been doing. Back when I read the first volume I feel like I was (coincidentally?) more primed to read the thing at least a bit more closely, since I think that was around when I got into the Arkham Horror card game for a bit, and was curious about the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG and so on, and so I think I reread the original story around there. Nowadays none of that is remotely a factor, so from that and partly being through this volume already, and I feel like the base-level distance from a direct adaptation of Lovecraft that I would take in a context where the second most famous thing about him is his intense racism, I feel like the rest of this volume washed over me very shallowly (even though I’d left off kind of right before stuff starts to pop off). If there’s interesting thoughts to be had from me about it as an adaptation they might be found in my notes for the first volume, if anywhere. One part did actively impress me though:

I did read up to the next chapter where I’m at in the magazine via the earlier issues I have – I think maybe I skipped a chapter that way? But ehhhh it’s a story I know well from reading multiple times before, and it’s just one chapter, I don’t think I need to buy another volume for that when I’m actively trying to save… Certainly at one point I would have gone for it anyway though.
