It’s really a pity the trans characters in this series aren’t handled just a little bit better. It’s so tantalizingly almost an impressively sympathetic and well-done portrayal for the time… but doesn’t really quite get there for me for a variety of reasons (like the designs, for one).

The other general thought that I don’t think I mentioned in the last one of these notes is from the release dates of the collected volumes (and the publication information at the back) I realized these chapters must have been coming out weekly (nor nearly so). I can’t imagine (must surely involve assistants somehow). Really is the perfect weekly magazine series though – would surely be smooth as silk to just keep up with this week’s next iteration in the unfolding mystery that way.
